PETROMAT Empowers PPC Chula’s Carbon Footprint Course for Sustainability Leaders

Mr. Varoon Varanyanond, Industrial Partnership Advisor of PETROMAT, recently joined The Petroleum and Petrochemical College (PPC), Chulalongkorn University, as an invited lecturer for the course titled “Carbon Footprint: Tool for a Sustainable Future,” led by Assistant Professor Dr. Ampira Charoensaeng.

Held during 6–10 April at the PPC building, Mr. Varoon delivered a series of essential lectures covering three core areas: Fundamental Climate Science, Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO), and Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP).

The Fundamental Climate Science session bridged environmental science with engineering applications, explaining how greenhouse gases alter Earth’s energy balance and accelerate climate change. The lecture also underscored the role of regulatory frameworks in aligning industrial operations toward climate mitigation.

In the CFO module, students were introduced to carbon accounting methodologies based on globally recognized frameworks such as the GHG Protocol, categorizing emissions into the Scope 1, 2, and 3 across operations and supply chains. Mr. Varoon further highlighted practical carbon reduction strategies, including energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and supply chain management.
.
The CFP lecture concluded with a focus on Life Cycle Assessment, a systematic approach to quantifying emissions across a product’s entire life cycle—from raw material extraction and transportation to production and end use.
Bringing together the PPC’s Master’s and Ph.D. students, the course highlights PETROMAT’s expertise in carbon footprint, equipping the next generation of professionals with practical tools to drive a low-carbon future.
