Hub of Talents: Sustainable Materials for Circular Economy (HubSustainMat), in collaboration with PETROMAT, hosted the mini-conference “Advanced Bio-Based & Bio-Inspired Materials for a Sustainable Future” on May 14-15, 2025, at Pullman Pattaya G Hotel and Thammasat University’s Pattaya Campus. The event was officially opened by Prof. Hathaikarn Manuspiya, Head of HubSustainMat.

The conference brought together leading professors and students from across Thailand and abroad to explore emerging research and foster international cooperation in sustainable materials. Among the distinguished speakers were Prof. Christoph Weder from the Adolphe Merkle Institute, University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and Assoc. Prof. Daniel Crespy from the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC), Thailand. They presented recent advances in the design and development of functional bio-based polymers and bio-inspired materials with potential applications in various industries.

The conference also included participation from faculty and students of The Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University, and the Bio-Energy and Biochemical Refinery Technology (BEB) program under the Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University. Their research highlighted Thailand’s growing capacity in biomaterials innovation and the translation of academic research into scalable technologies that support the circular economy.

On the second day, participants visited the BEB laboratory, where they observed ongoing research and potential pilot-scale technologies in bio-refinery and biochemical conversion. The visit provided a practical perspective on how Thailand is leveraging its academic and research institutions to drive sustainable innovation in materials science. The overall event highlighted collaborative research aimed at advancing sustainable materials in a circular economy.
